These Were The Top 10 Most Popular Searches On Google In 2014
Each year, Google releases a list of the topics we’ve collectively searched for the most over the past 12 months. Each year, I try and see how many I can guess beforehand.
This year, I got about half. How many can you get? [Pro tip: remember, people generally search for depressing/scary stuff more than pretty much anything else.]
Google released two lists this year — one for US search trends, and one for worldwide search trends. The lists are mostly the same, with just a few differences.
US Trending Searches:
- Robin Williams
- World Cup
- Ebola
- Malaysia Airlines
- Flappy Bird
- ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
- ISIS
- Ferguson
- Frozen
- Ukraine
Global Trending Searches:
- Robin Williams
- World Cup
- Ebola
- Malaysia Airlines
- ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
- Flappy Bird
- Conchita Wurst
- ISIS
- Frozen
- Sochi Olympics
The two lists are strikingly similar, save for the global list leaning toward Conchita Wurst and the Sochi Olympics in place of Ferguson and Ukraine.
Interesting to note: this is the first year in a few where an Apple product didn’t make the cut. (2010 had iPad; 2011 featured both iPhone 5 and iPad 3; 2012 had iPad 3 again; 2013 had the iPhone 5S in spot #2)
Also of note: as far as I can recall, Flappy Bird is the first mobile app to crack Google’s top 10. Having a wildly successful app is one thing — but an app that becomes one of the most searched for things around the entire world? Achievement unlocked. (Google notes that 2048 and Flappy Bird, both one-man projects, beat out Destiny, the most expensive game ever developed.)
(Note: this list is based on year-versus-year search trends; it’s about how popular a topic is this year versus last, not raw frequency. If it were just raw frequency, Google says the most popular searches wouldn’t change much.)

You can go to the casino or you can check out Lenovo's Horizon table. The 27-inch table -- in effect a giant tablet -- runs Windows 8 and has Lenovo's own Aura interface. It will be sold this year at a starting price of $1,699
Not impressed by Lenovo's 27-inch screen, 3M has an even bigger 84-inch touch screen table that can handle up to 40 simultaneous touches. This one isn't coming out for consumers though; it's meant to be a commercial product.

If you said all billionaires drive around in luxury cars, eat your words. While Mukesh Ambani’s Maybach 62 costs Rs 5.25 crore, Ikea founder Ingvard Kamprad has been driving a 1993 model Volvo 240 which is currently worth about $1500 (Rs. 83160)
According to the Forbes Billionaires List, Mexican telecom giant Carlos Slim Helu is the world's richest man. He drives a Bentley Continental Flying Spur which costs around 1,70,00,000 Indian rupees
Reliance India Chairman Mukesh Ambani with a net worth of $22.3 billion is the world's richest Indian in the Forbes list. He drives one of the most luxurious cars, a Maybach 62 along with a Mercedes S Class and a Mercedes SL500. The Maybach is worth a whopping INR 5 crores.
Industrialist Anil Ambani drives a car that suits his personality, a Lamborghini Gallardo. The Gallardo accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 325 km/h. Its V10 engine offers 500 hp and 376 lbs-ft of torque.
No, Ratan Tata doesn’t drive a Tata Nano. He uses a Mercedes S Class instead. His fleet also includes a Ferrari California, a Maserati Quattroporte, a Cadillac XLR and a Chrysler Sebring.
Liquor baron Vijay Mallya is famous for his passion for vintage cars. However, among his daily drivers is the pricey Maybach 62.
